Group Therapy

Meditation is the Medication

Meditation is a mental practice that involves focusing the mind and eliminating distractions to achieve a state of deep relaxation, heightened awareness and inner peace. It can involve various techniques such as controlled breathing, concentration on a particular thought or object, mindfulness, or mantra repetition. The goal of meditation is often to improve mental clarity, reduce stress, promote emotional well-being, and cultivate a sense of calm or spiritual insight.

This 12-week program is designed to introduce you to 12 different meditation techniques. The therapy runs continuously, so you can join the group at any time. Based on my past experience in leading group therapy, I have observed that participants benefit more from group interactions. That’s why the majority of our weekly sessions will be dedicated to sharing among us. If you find these exchanges helpful, you are welcome to continue participating in the group even after completing the first 12 sessions, as the program runs continuously. Furthermore, if you miss a session, you can sign up for the next session in the following cycle.

Sessions will be held, weekly on Tuesdays from 2:00 pm to 3:20 pm. The first 20 minutes of every session is dedicated to sharing in-between session experiences with the practice and setting intentions for the day’s/week’s practice. I will then take 20 minutes to introduce a new technique. We will take a 10-minute break. After the break, we will take 15 minutes to practice the technique and take the last 15 minutes to share around about our experiences. You will be encouraged to practice each technique at home daily in between sessions. You will get as much of the process as you put into it. Meditations will be guided in English, exclusively, to lighten the verbiage. If you prefer to express yourself in French during talks, absolutely feel free to do so.

Reservations for group can be made by email (drejessicarenaud@lotuspsychologie.ca). I am available if you have any questions. Anxious and depressive symptoms will be measured with online questionnaires before and after the program to measure progress.
